Government's Measures to Support Consumers
Addressing concerns about the impact of rising LPG prices in India, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, informed the Rajya Sabha that India imports over 60% of its domestic LPG consumption, with prices linked to the international market. However, the government continues to provide support to eligible beneficiaries through credited subsidies. Additionally, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) has initiated a targeted subsidy of Rs 200 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills a year for beneficiaries during 2022-23 and 2023-24.

While domestic LPG cylinder rates remain unaffected, the recent measures by state-backed oil companies provide a glimmer of hope for households and businesses alike, paving the way for a more sustainable and affordable energy future.
